Ja Morant, the star of the Memphis Grizzlies, has a violent past, and his recent on-court parties have tarnished his reputation. There are restrictions on what NBA players may do on the floor, but they are encouraged to celebrate their wins.
The NBA has the right to respond to anything that suggests violence, or that can be interpreted as disrespectful. Given Morant’s past problems, the NBA felt compelled to take action in this situation.
Morant is in deep trouble again after hurling a “grenade” into the crowd and flashing finger guns. But he claims nothing will stop him from being himself on and off the court. Michael Wallace of Grind City Media reveals Morant’s take on the celebration during Thursday’s appearance on ‘The Gary Parrish Show.’
According to Wallace, in Morant’s words,“Listen, it’s not what you think it is. I’m taking my words, and I’m throwing them out there. I’m speaking Ja. I’m being Ja. I’m going to take my words, I’m going to throw them out there, and then I’m going to block out the noise. And that’s what I’m doing. So when you see me do that, that’s what I’m doing. I’m saying what I got to say to the world, and I’m blocking out the noise in the midst of what’s coming back my way. And that’s how it’s going to be.”
Ja was recorded using finger guns against the Kings and Heat, followed by his famous grenade toss that went viral on X this week three times in a short time. He also didn’t hesitate to do it tonight during the Wolves game.

Ja’s finger gun celebration has already resulted in a $75,000 punishment, but he can’t let it go. Morant will have problems for the remainder of his career. For whatever reason, he views those themes as a part of who he is.
Why Is The NBA So Clearly Keeping Tabs On Ja Morant’s Every Move?
It all started in March 2023 when Ja was given an eight-game suspension after an Instagram Live video showed him pointing a gun close to a bar in Denver. The Grizzlies star was suspended for 25 games during the 2023–24 season after posting a video of himself with his pistol in a car two months later. Unfortunately, Ja’s contentious past doesn’t end there.
Although Ja has already completed his 25-game sentence, his reputation has not yet improved. Fans are losing hope that Morant will improve as he struggles on the floor. He is averaging 23.0 points and 7.3 assists per game this season.
Morant, a 25-year-old point guard, still has time to improve his reputation, but it will take a significant shift in mindset. Ja can potentially become a good leader for the Grizzlies if he can refrain from employing violent gestures on the floor.
The Grizzlies, now sixth in the Western Conference (47–32), have a difficult path ahead of them. They must be focused and humble to emerge from the West and restore some respect to their reputation.
