After four seasons in Los Angeles, Russell Westbrook made the move to the Denver Nuggets this offseason. Ironically, he is now facing his former team, the Clippers, in the first round of the 2025 NBA playoffs. Hence, Westbrook takes the court each night against players he once shared the locker room with.
While fans might expect some friendly trash talk between former teammates, the real spark came in Game 5, but not from someone Westbrook ever played alongside. In the third quarter, following a foul by Westbrook, newly acquired Clipper Bogdan Bogdanovic exchanged heated words with him before attempting his free throws.

The referees quickly intervened, issuing technical fouls to both players to cool down the situation. Bogdanovic has no shared history with Westbrook, but the emotions of the playoffs seemed to ignite their confrontation on the court.
Russell Westbrook Reflects on His Competitive Spirit After Joining Denver

In the postgame press conference, Russell Westbrook addressed his mindset during the intense matchup. He also answered questions after being asked about his interactions with the Clippers’ bench.
“I have so much gratitude and so much respect for the game. So much respect for being able to go out and compete. I always tell myself before every night to have fun. My fun may look a little different than everybody else’s. When I’m intense and I’m competing at the highest level, I’m having the best time,” Westbrook said.
