A massive trade proposal has the Milwaukee Bucks sending Giannis Antetokounmpo to an up-and-coming Western Conference team in a move that would set off fireworks around the NBA.
After being eliminated from the NBA playoffs in round one for the third year in a row, many wonder if the two-time league MVP has gotten frustrated to the point where he’ll request a trade. All-Star guard Damian Lillard may miss all of 2025-26 recovering from an Achilles tear, so Milwaukee’s championship hopes are already looking slim as is.
The Bucks have mustered just a single playoff series win (the first round in 2022) since Giannis Antetokounmpo guided the franchise to the NBA championship in 2021.
And as other superstars like LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and Kawhi Leonard have shown, recent title success doesn’t guarantee that a franchise player will stick around long-term.
Bleacher Report’s Dan Favale proposed a blockbuster trade idea that has Milwaukee trading Giannis Antetokounmpo to the San Antonio Spurs in exchange for Keldon Johnson, Jeremy Sochan, Harrison Barnes, the Nos. 2 and 14 picks in 2025 plus first-round picks in 2027 (via the Atlanta Hawks), 2029 and 2031:
“The Spurs suddenly have one of the strongest theoretical offers for Giannis after landing the No. 2 overall pick in this year’s draft. They’d be giving Milwaukee a selection that will turn into a player—likely Dylan Harper—who can serve as the focal point of the Bucks’ rebuild. The Spurs would be giving up an additional four first-rounders as well, including this year’s No. 14 selection.
Sochan isn’t filler, either. He falls short of outright first-round value with an extension on the way and offensive limitations galore. But he has flashed malleable defense and has value in a big-man’s play-finisher role at the other end. Barnes and Johnson are on expiring contracts and would help the Bucks remain immediately competitive while they don’t have their own first-rounder…
This is a lot for the Spurs to send out, but they’d end up with a core of Giannis, Castle, Vassell, De’Aaron Fox and Victor Wembanyama. That’s a contender with a pretty open-ended window.”
The Spurs are slowly but surely building a competitive team around Victor Wembanyama, but adding Giannis to the mix would propel them to championship contention right off the bat.

As Favale notes, the Spurs have plenty of assets that would put them in a good spot to outbid other teams for Giannis Antetokounmpo. And if you’re the future Hall of Famer, who wouldn’t want the chance to star alongside Wembanyama and form the Spurs’ second version of the Twin Towers?
Giannis Antetokounmpo Should Definitely Ask For A Trade

At this point, it’s clear that the Bucks have aren’t close to sniffing another championship without Lillard. They’ve let Antetokounmpo down with poor roster management and coaching hires, and if he wants to win more championships, his best bet is to seek a trade to a contender.
