Chris Paul’s time with the San Antonio Spurs this past season was quite the story.
At 39, Paul signed a one-year deal and exceeded expectations, averaging 8.8 points and 7.4 assists while starting all 82 games.
According to NBA insider Marc Stein, there’s a growing sense that Paul might want to explore other options this offseason. While he could certainly come off the bench in San Antonio, multiple teams could provide him with a bigger role and more playing time.
And Dallas Mavericks, Miami Heat, and even the Los Angeles Clippers are the top suitors as per Stein’s report.
“Anticipation is building that Paul could be on the move again this offseason even though his time as a Spur as a mentor to Victor Wembanyama and a young team overall was an unabashed success. The reality now, though, is that San Antonio acquired De’Aaron Fox in February and just watched Stephon Castle assemble a Rookie of the Year season,” the insider wrote.

To say he was a vital veteran presence would be an understatement. He really stepped up, especially when it came to mentoring younger stars like Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle.
Despite all of this, Paul might be on the move. Yes, according to insider reports, he could be seeing offers on the table very soon.
Chris Paul Played A Great Role Mentoring Young Players

While Chris Paul would most likely go for the trade, at least what the rumors hint at, he played a great role mentoring the young players.
Speaking of Castle, he truly flourished under Paul’s guidance and emerged as a solid starter. And let’s not forget about De’Aaron Fox, whom the Spurs acquired before the trade deadline.
With these changes, the Spurs found themselves in a good position in the NBA Draft Lottery. And landing the second pick, which they’re likely to use on another standout guard, Dylan Harper.

While the Spurs may want to keep Paul around and could offer him some money, the reality is that they might not give him the playing time he desires. With the backcourt getting crowded, it’s hard to picture Paul fitting in smoothly.
And then there’s Castle and the newly acquired Fox, who have played with great composition at the position.
Whatever happens next, there’s no denying that Paul’s influence on the young Spurs team was invaluable and will be felt for seasons to come.
