When the Boston Celtics won their 18th NBA title in 2024, they celebrated the parade with the whole team. Former stars Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Ray Allence were among the celebrities at the celebration. The franchise’s rising stars, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, also joined the parade. But one key presence was missing, and that was former Celtics star Kendrick Perkins.
Last year, there were many speculations about why the 2008 NBA champion with Boston was not invited. Now, the former majority owner, Wyc Grousbeck, has revealed the reason behind it. According to Wyc Grousbeck, the tension grew so much that inviting Perkins could have caused problems at the parade.
“I love Perk to this day. [But] he wasn’t invited to our parade last year, that is true,” said Grousbeck. “Because he had been giving people a lot of s***. I had family members and players saying if that guy’s in the parade, we’re not in the parade,” he added.

Now, as a vocal ESPN analyst, Perkins has often criticized the Celtics in recent years. His strong opinions caught the media’s attention but upset many team members. Even though he contributed as a significant role player in the 2008 championship, his harsh words mattered more than his achievements.

On social media, Perkins wrote, “I apologized privately, so I’m apologizing publicly to the young for my comments on First Take yesterday.” He mentioned that those words were not a personal attack on him.
As Edwards is a rising star in the Minnesota Timberwolves’ depth and grows day by day, his comments seem unfair and irrelevant towards Edwards.
