Kevin Durant is on the move again. The Phoenix Suns are looking to trade the 35-year-old star, and Durant shared which teams he prefers. According to Marc Stein, Durant’s top choices are the Suns, the Antonio Spurs, the Houston Rockets, and the Miami Heat. The New York Knicks almost made that list, too, but something changed.
Durant considered the Knicks a possible destination. However, the Knicks decided not to pursue a trade for him. Stein reported that New York made it clear they would not chase a deal for Durant. This surprised many, but the Knicks’ leadership had a clear reason for saying no.
The Knicks just finished a strong season, reaching the Eastern Conference finals. Their starting lineup of Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, Mikal Bridges, OG Anunoby, and Karl-Anthony Towns has great chemistry. The team did not want to break up that group to add Durant, even though he is a superstar.
New York Knicks Prefer Stability Over Star Power

Trading for Durant would have required a big package, likely including Bridges, Anunoby, or even Towns. The Knicks didn’t risk losing key players who make their team strong. They prefer to keep building their current core rather than casing a quick fix.
The decision is not about Durant’s skill. It’s about timing and team fit. The Knicks are working to create a stable and lasting team. Adding Durant might improve their chances in the short term, but could hurt their long-term plans.
Meanwhile, the Suns want the best trade offer, not just a deal with Durant’s favourite teams. Durant is only willing to sign an extension if he lands with one of his preferred teams. A trade could happen fast with the NBA draft coming soon, but it likely won’t involve the New York Knicks.
