Andrew Luck has made two notable decisions during his short time as general manager of the Stanford Cardinals.
On Tuesday of last week, Luck announced that Stanford head coach Troy Taylor had been fired.
This week, Stanford hired former Indianapolis Colts and Carolina Panthers head coach Frank Reich for the job. However, there’s a catch: It’s only temporary.
The school announced on Monday morning that Andrew Luck and the program hired Reich to serve as their “interim head coach” for the 2025 college football season.

The 63-year-old will coach the team for just one season. After that, the school will launch a national search to find its next head coach.
“I could not be more excited for our coaches, staff, and players to have Frank as our head football coach for the 2025 season,” Stanford football GM Andrew Luck said in a statement. “I have experienced first-hand the incredible impact Frank has demonstrated as a leader and have full confidence he is the perfect steward for this season.”

This is quite unusual since most interim head coaches are coaches who are already on the team’s staff.
It begs the question of what happens if Frank has a successful season. Does the program not consider keeping him?
Andrew Luck Had No Choice But To Fire Troy Taylor

Former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck is the general manager of the Stanford Cardinals.
His biggest move was firing Troy Taylor due to his alleged workplace behavior.
This was something that had to be done as Taylor reportedly bullied and belittled female athletic staffers.
Taylor has been the subject of two investigations into allegations of hostile behavior.
Taylor received a warning for his conduct in February 2024. However, in June and July, Taylor was cited in a second investigation for “an ongoing pattern of concerning behavior by Coach Taylor.”
“After continued consideration, it is evident to me that our program needs a reset,” Andrew Luck said in a statement.
Taylor posted a 6-18 record in two seasons with the program after coming to Palo Alto after a successful run at Sacramento State.
