Dick Vitale was able to call the game between Villanova and Baylor on Sunday after he was cleared last week to make the trip to Waco.
The legendary broadcaster couldn’t contain his excitement in the statement he released.
“I’m jumping for joy knowing I’ll be sitting next to Jon Sciambi and talking hoops instead of chemotherapy and blood counts,” Vitale said.
Baylor did right by Vitale when they honored him with a special jersey and played a tribute video celebrating his storied career.
After the video played, the crowd went wild and Vitale was moved to tears.
After Baylor’s win, Vitale received another surprise when he was able to go back to the locker room and visit with the team, who were overjoyed to see him.
Vitale had to come to terms with his own mortality every day, so these moments are even more special.
