The Jacksonville State Gamecocks took on the Liberty Flames over the weekend.
During a weekend when Liberty was slated to play Jacksonville State in a three-game series, the team did not fare well, going 1-3.
One of those games went rather quickly as they were forced to forfeit due to not including a starting pitcher on the roster.
Ahead of their contests, teams were required to submit their 27-player rosters, which featured players who would participate in the games.
Liberty Flames pitcher Ben Blair would not be available for Game 1 as he was scheduled to start in Game 2.
Jacksonville State’s manager took notice.
According to The Anniston Star’s Jared Gravette, Jacksonville State coach Steve Bieser spotted the issue before a pitch would be thrown.

He promptly waited for Blair to step onto the mound and throw his first pitch in the game before alerting the umpires in Saturday’s first game.
Liberty will forfeit game 2 as Blair was declared ineligible after throwing 1 pitch. Apparently he was not on the 27 man roster for the weekend. Liberty has filed a protest. Not sure what to say beyond that.

The Liberty Flames would drop to 2-4 in CUSA and 19-10 overall.
