ESPN’s 2025 college football rankings, including their Way-Too-Early Top 25 and FPI Power Index, have dropped months before the season.
Where do the top teams stand after spring practice and roster movement from the transfer portal?
Weeks away from the kickoff of the 2025 season, ESPN has revealed its official top 25 college football rankings, and as expected, it’s a lot of the SEC and Big Ten at the top of the preseason polls.
For those unaware, the Football Power Index (FPI) college football rankings and computer prediction model measure team strength and predict a team’s future performance.
Rankings and score predictions are based on 20,000 simulations of a team’s season and games, which use a combination of key analytics, including scores to date, quality of opponents, team talent, recruiting, and a team’s schedule.
A projected point margin per game ranks teams against an average team on a neutral field.

“eSECpn “computer generated” FPI 😭. At this point, does ESPN have any credibility as a sports network? Sucks it’s gotten to this stage but it’s basically like CNN / Fox putting out bogus data to make their respective parties appear superior. Conference branding for profit is the worst thing to happen to CFB,” one final fan added.
