What began as a weekend outing turned devastating for former Ohio State wide receiver Julian Fleming.
The 24-year-old, who recently finished his college career at Penn State, crashed his ATV Friday night in rural Pennsylvania, suffering serious injuries. The accident tragically killed his 23-year-old girlfriend, Alyssa Boyd.
The two were riding an ATV along Painter Lick Lane in Columbia Township, Bradford County, when a deer suddenly jumped into their path, leading to a violent collision. The impact threw both from the vehicle. Neither was wearing safety equipment at the time, according to Pennsylvania State Police. Fleming survived but suffered serious injuries and was rushed to Guthrie Troy Community Hospital. Boyd died at the scene.
A Sudden Collision And A Life Lost

The crash unfolded quickly and without warning. Pennsylvania State Police confirmed that the ATV was traveling northbound when it struck a deer that darted out onto the roadway. “This crash occurred on Painter Lick Lane… An ATV was traveling northbound… when it collided with a deer that had jumped out in the roadway,” the police report read. “Neither of the occupants were wearing safety equipment.”
Emergency crews from Guthrie EMS and the Troy Fire Department responded immediately. Investigators later located the deer’s body near the wreckage, consistent with damage found on the ATV.

Fleming, a former five-star recruit, spent four seasons with the Buckeyes, tallying 963 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. He posted his best numbers as a junior, with 34 catches for 533 yards and six touchdowns. He transferred to Penn State for his final season, where he recorded 14 receptions for 176 yards and one touchdown with the Nittany Lions.
According to 247Sports, Fleming has since been released from the hospital. Earlier this year, he briefly signed a free agent deal with the Green Bay Packers, but the team voided the contract after a failed physical.
Investigators are actively examining the details of the crash as those close to the young couple struggle with heartbreak. Alyssa Boyd, just 23, lost her life instantly on a quiet country road, leaving loved ones devastated. The investigation continues, but one life has ended, and another has changed forever.
