Police arrested Georgia wide receiver Nitro Tuggle early Thursday morning on charges of reckless driving and speeding. Officers booked the rising sophomore just before 2 a.m. and released him an hour later on a $20 cash bond, according to online records.
Tuggle, a 6-foot-1, 190-pound receiver from Indiana, played in two games as a freshman in 2024, catching three passes for 34 yards. He initially planned to enter the transfer portal in December but stayed in Georgia. Now, as he prepares for a bigger role in 2025, his arrest has drawn scrutiny.
Georgia’s Ongoing Driving Issues

Nitro Tuggle’s arrest adds to a troubling pattern within the Bulldogs’ program. Since January 2023, police have arrested at least nine Georgia players for driving-related offenses and issued more than two dozen citations. The most tragic incident occurred in January 2023, when offensive lineman Devin Willock and staffer Chandler LeCroy died in a high-speed crash. Investigators found LeCroy over the legal alcohol limit and racing former Georgia standout Jalen Carter, who later pleaded no contest to reckless driving and racing.

Head coach Kirby Smart has acknowledged the problem and taken steps to address it. After cornerback Daniel Harris was arrested for driving 106 mph last September, Smart benched him for the next game and emphasized the need for change. “We continue to drive home the sensitive nature of it,” Smart said at the time. “You want kids to grow up, make good decisions, and learn from their mistakes. But it hasn’t stopped it.”
Georgia has implemented guest speaker programs and financial penalties through its NIL collective to curb reckless driving. Despite these efforts, Nitro Tuggle’s arrest shows the issue persists. The university has not yet commented on his status. As the Bulldogs prepare for the 2025 season, many will watch how Smart and the program respond to this latest setback.
