The Michigan Wolverines have landed a significant blow on their bitter rivals in their recruiting drive, having gotten a commitment from one of the most coveted prospects in the country.
Carter Meadows, a 6ft 6in edge rusher from Gonzaga College High School in Washington, D.C., announced this week that he’s choosing Michigan over several top schools following offers from Ohio State, Penn State, and South Carolina.
The 225-lb star is the No. 6 overall prospect in the country and the highest-ranked prospect coming out of D.C. He is expected to be a massive addition to the Wolverines’ defense as he offers length, incredible athleticism, and versatility to that side of the ball.
Meadows has already been touted as a first-round draft pick, which suggests his commitment is a major coup for Sherrone Moore. He’s the 18th commit for Michigan’s 2026 class, which is now in the national top 10 and is gaining ground on that of other rivals.
“I think their history of winning and tradition and upholding their standard of excellence in all walks of life, on the field and off the field that’s what makes it special,” Meadows told On3 Sports regarding his commitment.
Carter Meadows’ Commitment To Michigan Wolverines Adds Intrigue To Rivalry With Ohio State
Carter Meadows’ positional flexibility and knack for bending the edge, as well as his explosive first step, should make him a formidable weapon in Michigan’s defensive ranks. He is also adept at blocking passing lanes, chasing down in space, and making powerful tackles.

The Wolverines’ ability to land him over Ohio State adds more intrigue to their rivalry. Both programs have won national titles over the past two seasons, though Michigan has been the dominant team head-to-head.
It appears they have established a route from Gonzaga, where players such as Evan Link and Kainoa Winston also hail from.
