Sometimes, a summer break goes from peaceful to painful in the blink of an eye. That’s exactly what happened to Notre Dame’s rising offensive line star, Charles Jagusah.
The sophomore lineman, expected to anchor the Fighting Irish front in 2025, suffered a serious injury over the Fourth of July weekend.
Jagusah was involved in a UTV accident on July 5 while visiting Wyoming. And the aftermath isn’t pretty; he broke his left humerus and had to undergo surgery.
Jagusah’s Recovery Begins After Scary Crash

On Saturday, Notre Dame confirmed the news through its sports information department, Fighting Irish Media.
“Sophomore OL Charles Jagusah was injured in a UTV accident in Wyoming on July 5,” the university said in a statement. “He has undergone surgery to repair a fracture of his left humerus. The initial prognosis is favorable, and he will return to campus early this week for further evaluation and continued care.”
Doctors have yet to establish a timeline for his recovery, but there’s a real chance he could miss part of the preseason and maybe even some early games.

That’s a significant blow to Notre Dame’s offense. Jagusah showed flashes of dominance late last season, especially in the Orange Bowl win over Penn State. Then came the national title game against Ohio State, where he started at left tackle and held his own against an elite Buckeye front.
Offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock, who coached No. 4 overall pick Will Campbell at LSU, didn’t hold back with his praise just last month.
“Both of them are kind of like, ‘You can’t fool me more than once’ type of guys,” Denbrock commented on June 10. “They never make the same mistake twice. And they fix things between reps. That’s rare.”
Now, Notre Dame’s coaches and teammates will wait and hope their young star heals fast. The Irish open the season against Miami on Sunday, August 31, and if all goes well, Jagusah could still be part of it. For now, it’s about recovery, rehab, and patience. Football can wait. Healing can’t.
