Kevin McGuff has some explaining to do.
The Ohio State Buckeyes women’s basketball coach was arrested and charged with driving under the influence on May 6 in Dublin, Ohio, according to a report from Eleven Warriors. McGuff was arrested after a witness reported that a vehicle “struck several curbs and drove through the lawn of a residence.”
McGuff was found in his vehicle parked partially off his driveway and on his lawn.
The 55-year-old was cited for operating a vehicle while impaired, a misdemeanor. In a Tuesday hearing, McGuff’s attorney pleaded not guilty on behalf of the coach, according to Fox 8.
His license was initially suspended, but a judge temporarily reinstated his driving privileges during the same hearing.
“Due to the totality of the circumstances including, Kevin’s car parked partially in his yard, Kevin not being able to roll down his window, unnatural duration it took to respond to basic questions, the poor performance of the in-car tests, the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person, and the clues that I observed during his Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, I placed Kevin under arrest for OVI,” the arresting officer wrote in the police report, per Eleven Warriors.
McGuff has led Ohio State to eight NCAA tournament appearances in 12 seasons and a Big Ten title in the 2023-2024 season.

Ohio State issued a statement saying it was aware of the charge.
“The department is in communication with Coach McGuff and monitoring the situation closely,” the statement said.
“This is an ongoing, personal legal matter, and the department will share additional information at the appropriate time.”
Body Cam Footage Released of Kevin McGuff’s Arrest

Ohio State women’s basketball coach Kevin McGuff was arrested last week on a drunken driving charge after cops found him behind the wheel of a car parked in his front yard.
The coach’s attorney entered a not guilty plea on his behalf during a hearing Tuesday.
Body camera video was released on the same day, showing his arrest. The Dublin Police Department released footage showing McGuff getting arrested and charged with an OVI outside his home on May 6.
When officers arrived at the address, they found him sitting in the driver’s seat of his vehicle.
Footage shows a cop approaching the vehicle parked in the driveway. He waits as McGuff is seen inside, appearing to try to lower the window or open the door.
Eventually, the officer signals Kvin McGuff to get his door open. McGuff is then seen continuing to attempt to open the door for nearly two minutes.
The officer conducted three in-car tests due to a suspicion that McGuff was impaired.
He failed all three.
