Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin recently poked a bit of fun at Miami over their decision to hand quarterback Carson Beck a big payday.
Beck left Georgia for Miami a few months ago, but his colossal NIL wages have become a topic of discussion again amid the Nico Iamaleava drama. The former Tennessee quarterback was seemingly envious of Beck’s reported $4.3 million deal with the Hurricanes but ended up playing a losing hand in a bid to get a similar contract.
He’s understood to be headed to UCLA, where he is expected to make $1.5 million a season, less than the $2 million he initially agreed to play for in Tennessee.
Kiffin, a recent guest on ‘The Pivot,’ was asked for his thoughts on NIL’s impact and the unbelievable sums players are making nowadays.
Beck’s Miami deal came up, and the Rebels HC seemed surprised when he heard the figure, or at least pretended to be.
“Miami gave him $4.3 million?” he asked. “Did they watch his game against us?”

Social Media Didn’t Quite Agree With Lane Kiffin

One fan argued that Beck was hardly to blame for the loss.
“2 dropped 3rd down passes, running for his life all game, wr fumbles after the catch, DL tips ball into the interception. Definitely wasn’t on Beck,” they wrote in the comments.

Another criticised Kiffin, who landed himself a deal with a $9 million base salary and other incentives.
“Ole Miss gave Kiffinn 9 mil? Have they seen how all his head coaching tenures have ended?” they asked.

Kiffin was likely having a bit of fun, but Beck did have a terrible game against Ole Miss last year.
The QB was involved in a 28-10 loss to Mississippi in November, completing 20-of-31 passes for 186 yards, no touchdowns, and an interception. He appeared to be very upset on the sidelines, too, and who could blame him?
