Austin Metcalf’s father, Jeff, had to be escorted out by police after unexpectedly appearing at a press conference held by Karmelo Anthony’s parents.
On Apr. 2, 17-year-old Austin Metcalf was stabbed to death by Anthony (also 17) during a track meet at Centennial High School in Frisco, Texas. Anthony was charged with murder in the fatal stabbing and claims that the act was done in self-defense.
The two got involved in a verbal confrontation at the track meet, escalating to the point where Anthony stabbed Metcalf in the chest. It was later announced that Austin died in the arms of his twin brother, Hunter, who was at the scene.
Anthony’s parents held a press conference on Thursday to discuss the harassment and threats they’ve endured over the last two weeks. Anthony’s mother, Kala Hayes, said that her husband had to take a leave of absence from work due to concerns about his safety.
Hayes also said their 13-year-old daughter is struggling to sleep at home because of fears for her life. She also said they haven’t received any money from the GiveSendGo page to support Karmelo and the family (more than $465,000 has been raised so far).
The emotional press conference took an unexpected turn when Austin Metcalf’s father showed up. Cameras caught police talking to Jeff Metcalf before he was escorted out of the building:
