The 2024 NFL season is over, and all eyes are now on the 2025 regular season, which begins on September 4. The Super Bowl 59 champion Philadelphia Eagles is at the cream of the crop regarding teams looking like they could return to the Super Bowl. However, the 10 teams on this list have a lot of work ahead of them before they can say they’re playoff contenders.
Here are 10 NFL teams that desperately need to rebuild for the 2025 season.
Which NFL teams are in dire need of a rebuild next season?
Chicago Bears

The Bears have their franchise quarterback in Caleb Williams, but the offensive line was a disaster. Williams was sacked 68 times in the 2024 NFL season (which was the most in the NFL), and D’Andre Swift also struggled with that offensive line. The Bears need to invest heavily in fixing their offensive line with new Pro Bowl-caliber guards and tackles and potentially draft a lineman in the 2025 NFL Draft.
The competition in the NFC North isn’t getting easier, with the Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, and Minnesota Vikings all making the playoffs in 2024. The Bears could’ve been a playoff contender if they had a better offensive line around Williams. We’ll just have to wait and see what the Bears do under new head coach Ben Johnson.
Tennessee Titans

The Titans finished the 2024 NFL season with a 3-14 record and earned the first overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft. However, the Titans also had quarterback problems, with Will Levis struggling all season long. Yes, drafting offensive tackle JC Latham was the right move in 2024, and defensive tackle Jeffrey Simmons earned a nod to the Pro Bowl.

However, the rest of the offensive line needs serious repair. On top of that, the Titans need to move on from Levis and find their next quarterback of the future. The Titans have good defense and good offensive playmakers, such as Calvin Ridley and Tony Pollard. They deserve a much better quarterback and a stronger offensive line for the 2025 season.
New York Jets

When the Jets traded for Aaron Rodgers in 2023, they thought they had found the quarterback who would help them return to the NFL playoffs for the first time since the 2010 NFL season. Instead, Rodgers lasted only four plays in 2023 before injuring his Achilles. In 2024, Rodgers managed to play a full season but struggled for most of the year.
The Jets also fired head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas in the middle of the season, and Rodgers told Rodgers his time with Gang Green was over. As talented as some of the offensive playmakers and defense are, the Jets need a new quarterback to play for new head coach Aaron Glenn as they get set for a fresh start in 2025.
Cleveland Browns

The Browns used to be that underdog team fans wanted to see have a winning season until they traded for and extended controversial quarterback Deshaun Watson. Watson has struggled during his tenure with the Browns with a combination of poor play and injuries. Watson is likely going to be out for the 2025 NFL season due to re-rupturing his Achilles.
The Browns desperately need a new quarterback to fill the void. On top of that, the Browns need a new running back, with Nick Chubb becoming a free agent and a new wide receiver to complement Jerry Jeudy. The Browns have a lot of work to do in the 2025 offseason. We’ll just have to wait and see what they do before the regular season begins in September.
New England Patriots

The 2024 Patriots were a complete disaster on the field, even though Drake Maye was the team’s lone bright spot. Head coach Jerod Mayo was fired immediately after the team’s final win against the Buffalo Bills in week 18. The offensive line was a mess, and Maye needed much more talented offensive weapons around him. New head coach Mike Vrabel needs to find a very talented wide receiver in free agency or trade for a wide receiver like Cooper Kupp or Deebo Samuel to bolster the team’s passing attack.
The Patriots also need a strong running back commanding the backfield and a new offensive line that will protect Maye from getting sacked a lot. Will the Patriots accomplish all of this overnight? No, but they’ll attempt to make some good moves during the free agency period in the post-Bill Belichick era.
Jacksonville Jaguars

The 2024 Jaguars were a mess. Trevor Lawrence struggled before his season came to an end after he suffered a concussion in the Jaguars’ week 13 matchup against the Houston Texans. The Jaguars’ offense can bolster the offensive line a bit and try to snag a new running back, whether it’s through free agency or in the 2025 Draft.
Thankfully, the Jaguars have a star in wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. The team needs to fix their defense with young Pro Bowl-like veterans and newly drafted rookies. New head coach Liam Coen has a lot of work ahead of him in Duvall County before the start of the 2025 NFL regular season.
New York Giants

The Giants had a very humiliating 2024 NFL season. Daniel Jones struggled in front of a horrific offensive line, wanted the team to release him, and signed with the Minnesota Vikings in the middle of the season. Losing Saquon Barkley had to have been the biggest gut punch to the G-Men, especially watching him sign with the rival Philadelphia Eagles and win Super Bowl 59 with them.
The signing of Devin Singletary flopped, but rookie running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. had 839 rushing yards and should command the rushing attack moving forward. The Giants also need to bolster their defense with a new secondary, new edge rushers, and a new defensive line to support Dexter Lawrence. If the Giants somehow mess their rebuild up, head coach Brian Daboll will have to start going on the job board websites and update his LinkedIn page.
Las Vegas Raiders

The players wanted Antonio Pierce to be the full-time head coach of the Silver and Black in the 2024 regular season after helping the team finish the 2023 season with a somewhat respectable 8-9 record, but the 2024 season ended in complete disaster and a 4-13 record. The Raiders had a revolving quarterback carousel rotating between Gardner Minshew, Aidan O’Connell, and Desmond Ridder. The Raiders need a new wide receiver to complement Jakobi Meyers’s new running backs, as the current running backs on the team struggled all season long behind a weak offensive line.
To make matters more insulting, the Raiders fired offensive coordinator Luke Getsy in the middle of the season. Pierce was fired a couple of days after the regular season concluded. New head coach Pete Carroll should be up for the challenge to fix a lot of the damage that was done in the 2024 NFL season.
New Orleans Saints

Where do we begin? The Saints started the 2024 season with a 2-0 record in dominating fashion against the Carolina Panthers and Dallas Cowboys, respectively. Then everything fell apart after their week three loss against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Saints would lose seven straight games and fire head coach Dennis Allen after week nine. Interim head coach Darren Rizzi helped the team to two straight wins, but they weren’t enough.
The Saints finished the 2024 NFL season with an abysmal 5-12 record and fourth place in the NFC South. The team needs new wide receivers and to retool the defense, but the Saints also have the worst cap space situation with -$51 million because of Derek Carr’s four-year $150 million deal he signed back in 2023. New head coach Kellen Moore has a lot of work ahead of him if he wants to see the Saints have some relevancy again.
Dallas Cowboys

Whenever it’s the Cowboys, the spotlight is always on them. The 2024 season was a disappointing year for the Cowboys. Jerry Jones didn’t even sign that many free agents in the 2024 offseason, which was the slow start of things unraveling for the Cowboys. Dak Prescott’s season was cut short due to season-ending hamstring surgery, the offensive play was awful outside of Rico Dowdle and CeeDee Lamb, and the defense had some issues not being able to slow down opposing offenses.
Head coach Mike McCarthy didn’t renew his contract and left the Cowboys after the conclusion of the season. Jones promoted offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer to be the team’s next head coach. Schottenheimer has a lot of work ahead of him as the Cowboys try to rebuild for a better 2025 season. The Cowboys need a new running back (with Ezekiel Elliot released and Dowdle becoming a free agent in the 2025 offseason), offensive linemen, and defensive linemen.
