Sports logos have become iconic symbols of our favorite teams over the years, from the likes of the Dallas Cowboys, Green Bay Packers, Las Vegas Raiders, Los Angeles Lakers, and New York Yankees. Whether the team is flying high or nose-diving onto the garbage heap, the logo can elevate a team to worldwide recognition.
However, some teams feel the need to change their iconic logos, with some disastrous consequence, choosing something mediocre or downright ridiculous, which detracts from the franchise’s image. Some teams have improved upon their hideous logos, while others continue to use them. Here at TPS, we’re going to discuss the 10 worst sports logo changes of all time.
Here are the 10 Worst Sport Logo changes of all time.
What are the worst sports logo changes that happened over the years?
Los Angeles Rams

Once upon a time, the Rams had a very cool logo. The navy blue, gold, and white looked amazing on the wordmark and the Charging Ram logo. However, in 2017, the Rams dropped the gold for a navy blue and white look. Then, in 2020, the Rams dropped their iconic Charging Ram logo for a weird-looking LA logo with yellow horns.
Despite the Rams winning Super Bowl 56, the sports logo itself is very forgettable. The Charging Ram logo was extremely exciting, and we truly miss it. We wish the Rams would bring that logo back.
Milwaukee Brewers

The Brewers’ current baseball glove logo is one of the best in baseball if not all sports. As many know, the top of the glove features an M for the city of Milwaukee, and the B represents the Brewers and the city’s rich beer-brewing history. However, in 1994, the Brewers dropped their iconic MB Glove logo for a pretty bad sports logo with MB in navy blue, green, and gold and two baseball bats sticking out of it.
Fortunately, the logo wasn’t popular and was changed in 2000. Brewers were written in navy blue script, smack in the middle of a giant baseball with Milwaukee on top and hops for beer on the bottom. The Brewers had a fancy “M” with hops on their baseball caps. It wasn’t until 2020 that the Brewers returned to that classic and iconic MB baseball glove logo that we came to know and love, and we’re very thankful the Brewers continue to use that logo to this day.
Toronto Blue Jays

The Blue Jays’ logo, from their early days, looked awesome; with a blue jay, a red maple leaf symbolizing the country of Canada, and a baseball in the background, it made one great sports logo for the team north of the border. Then, in 1997, the Blue Jays changed it to a somewhat more modernized look with a blue jay’s head on a baseball behind a red maple leaf. Then, in 2003, the Blue Jays replaced that logo with their batting practice logo, which just featured a buffed blue jay with a baseball and baseball bat and a giant red T for the city of Toronto.
In 2004, the Blue Jays unveiled a new logo with a blue jay head and the word “Jays” in silver with black lining. It was a very weird look at the Blue Jays throughout the 2000s, to say the least. Thankfully, in 2012, the Blue Jays returned to their classic colors of red, white, royal blue, and navy blue and put a new modern spin on their original logo. Trust us, this current Blue Jays logo truly identifies this team and their representation of Canada in Major League Baseball.
Golden State Warriors

The Warriors logo has gone through numerous changes over the years. The one thing that hasn’t changed is their royal blue and golden yellow colors. However, in the 1997 season, the Warriors scrapped their beautiful royal blue and yellow colors for navy blue, gold, and orange. The logo at the time was a warrior with an orange lightning bolt in front of a giant basketball. It was a strange look at the time, as the Warriors kept the navy blue, gold, and orange around for 13 years.
Thankfully, in the 2010-11 season, the Warriors went back to their roots and resurrected the classic royal blue and golden yellow colors and made a sports logo that is a modern play on the classic “The City” logo, which features the Bay Area Bridge in a blue circle. And we were very pleased to see these iconic colors return as the Warriors became a powerhouse in the 2010s. The logo went through some minor changes in 2020, including some improved font. Despite that, the current logo looks great.
Sacramento Kings

The Kings relocated to Kansas City, MO, for the 1985-86 season and retained their original red, white, and blue colors until 1994, when they changed to purple, black, gray, and white. Then, the Kings introduced an incredible logo with two gray and purple-lined jousting sticks going through a gray crown with Kings written in large white letters and a purple basketball. It was an incredible and iconic-looking logo for the Kings, even though they weren’t reaching the NBA Finals.
In 2016, the Kings changed their logo to a logo similar to their older sports logo, but with their current colors of purple, black, gray, and white. However, the logo the Kings used from 1994 until 2016 remains the King of logos the Kings have used throughout the years. We, as sports fans, miss that logo and wish it would come back and be the main logo once again.
Anaheim Ducks

The Ducks have been around since the 1990s, thanks to the movie “The Mighty Ducks.” In the beginning, their logo was unique and cool: a duck-shaped hockey mask in a black circle and a teal triangle with two hockey sticks sticking out. It was an amazing logo, but it stuck around for quite a while. A year after the 2004-05 NHL Lockout, Disney sold the Ducks to the Samueli family, where they made some changes to the Ducks name and logo for the 2006-07 season.
The logo featured the word “Ducks” with a duck foot as the D, which was very boring and pretty forgettable compared to the original logo. That boring D stuck around for quite too long. Thankfully, the Ducks brought back the original duck-shaped hockey mask for the 2024-25 season but retained the current colors of orange, black, gold, and white. We do miss the purple and teal, but having the duck-shaped hockey mask back is a massive improvement over the Duck foot as the main sports logo.
Juventus FC

Juventus FC had a great shield logo with three stripes, Juventas underlined in golden yellow, and a bull ready to charge at the bottom of the middle stripe. However, Juventas FC thought it wasn’t good enough, so in 2017, they changed the logo to two black J’s. Although simple logos work for teams like the Green Bay Packers, Los Angeles Dodgers, and New York Yankees, unfortunately, it doesn’t work for Juventas FC.
The previous shield logo with the Bull ready to charge showed more fight and grit compared to the two boring-looking J’s. Sorry, Juventus FC. Please go back to the design room and bring back the old sports logo.
Toronto Argonauts

The Argonauts had very sharp logos ready for battle from their inception in 1873, which saw some changes to in 1956 and 1976. From 1995 until 2004, the Argos had a warrior with a shield and a capital A in the center, ready to defend home turf from opposing enemies, and it looked great. Then, in 2005, the team had a capital A on a shied, which is simple but was boring at times.
In 2006, the Argonauts added more blue to the shield logo, giving it more flare, but it was still not ready for an intense battle. In 2021, the Argonauts unveiled a new twist to their classic boat logo with a navy blue capital A on the flag mast of a football-shaped boat ready to sail the seas. This current sports logo is a great logo for the Argonauts.
New York Jets

The Jets may not have seen much success in recent years, but we love the current old-school “fighter Jet” logo the team brought back from 1978 until 1997. Before that, the Jets had a very simple Green oval with a huge “NY Jets” and a white football written in the center that was used from 1998 until 2018. Then, in 2019, the Jets unveiled a new logo, which tried to look futuristic but not as cool as the logo used from 1998-2018.
After the 2023 season concluded, the Jets thankfully brought back the classic “fighter Jet” for the 2024 season, but we do wish we could see this sports logo in the playoffs in the future. Hopefully, gang-green can turn their misfortunes around in the 2025 season.
Indiana State Sycamores

The Indiana State Sycamores logo has gone through changes over the years. The best iteration of the Sycamores logo was from 1989 until 2020, with “Sycamores” written in a very nice script and a star on where Terre Haute, IN (the home of Indiana State University) is on the sports logo. Then, in 2020, the Sycamores unveiled a new logo with a silver “I” in the center of a blue Indiana with “Sycamores” not written in script.
It’s not as iconic and memorable as the previous script wordmark, and it makes us sports fans miss the script logo. Indiana State, please bring the script logo back.
