The Shedeur Sanders draft buzz is heating up, and things just got a lot more interesting.
With the 2025 NFL Draft only weeks away, ESPN insider Adam Schefter has spotlighted two teams as front-runners for the Colorado quarterback- the New Orleans Saints and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
It’s a twist few saw coming. Once considered a near-lock for a top-five pick, Sanders is now sliding in mock drafts. That shift could shake up the board dramatically, especially if a team like Pittsburgh, picking at 21, suddenly finds one of college football’s biggest names still available.
Saints At Nine Or Steelers At Twenty-One?

Schefter broke it down during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, pointing to New Orleans and Pittsburgh as the two most plausible landing spots. “Right now, couple weeks out, I don’t think Shedeur Sanders is going No. 2,” Schefter said. “And, again, the signs point to him not going No. 3 either. To me, I think there’s three options on Shedeur Sanders: nine to New Orleans, 21 to Pittsburgh.”

The Saints have made no secret about their desire to reset at quarterback. Picking at ninth overall, they could make a straightforward move to snag Sanders if he’s still on the board. For Pittsburgh, though, things get a little more complicated. The team has not met with Sanders at major pre-draft events, and he skipped his Pro Day entirely. That said, Schefter believes the Steelers would be ready to pounce if the opportunity arises.

“There was a time where we said Aaron Rodgers won’t slide to 23,” Schefter added. “He was gonna go number one, and he wound up sliding on draft day, all the way to number 23.”
While fans in Pittsburgh wait for clarity on whether Aaron Rodgers will wear black and gold in 2025, attention has shifted toward the draft. Sanders could become the surprise gift if Rodgers stays away.
Whether the Saints grab him early or the Steelers wait for him to fall, Shedeur Sanders is still one of the most intriguing names in this year’s draft conversation. And as Schefter put it, the only certainty is that “it’s a fluid process” until draft night.
