Aaron Rodgers’ old comments about Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin have gone viral again amid rumors that the four-time MVP may join the AFC North club.
Having been released by the New York Jets, the 41-year-old Rodgers is a free agent for the first time in his career. According to multiple reports, the Steelers and New York Giants have both spoken to Rodgers, and they appear to be the two front-runners for his services.
The Steelers tried to bring back Justin Fields, but he left to sign a two-year contract with the Jets. Russell Wilson, who spent most of 2024 as Pittsburgh’s starting QB, remains a free agent.
As the Rodgers-to-Steelers rumors pick up more steam, four-year-old comments from Aaron Rodgers praising Mike Tomlin have gone viral. Rodgers made the comments in a Sept. 2021 appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show.”
“It’s a great blue collar town…it’s got a lot of history, that city. Mike Tomlin, been there forever…I have a ton of respect for Mike. I think he’s a fantastic coach, I love the way that he leads, I love the way that he talks after the games.”

Fields started the Steelers’ first six games in 2024 with the 36-year-old Wilson recovering from a calf injury. The latter won six of his first seven starts with Pittsburgh, before imploding with a four-game losing streak to close out the regular season before losing to the Baltimore Ravens in the Wild Card Round.

Though the Jets were a mess in 2024, Aaron Rodgers fared well with 3,897 passing yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions behind one of the league’s worst offensive lines. So yes, he can still play.
Aaron Rodgers & Steelers Are The Ideal Match

The Steelers have churned out winning seasons with QBs like a past-his-prime Ben Roethlisberger, Mitch Trubisky, Kenny Pickett and a fading version of Russell Wilson.
Rodgers was stuck on a dysfunctional Jets team that had no idea what they were doing under GM Joe Douglas and owner Woody Johnson. The Steelers are a well-coached team with a top-10 defense and two stud receivers in D.K. Metcalf and George Pickens, and a healthy Rodgers could definitely make the Steelers title contenders again.
