The Washington Commanders are officially coming home. In a move that has fans buzzing with excitement, the team announced their return to the site of the historic RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. After months of speculation, the first renderings of the new venue have surfaced, and they are nothing short of spectacular.
Team owner Josh Harris revealed the vision for the future home, aiming for a 2030 opening. The proposed stadium will feature a sweeping glass roof and a massive window showcasing a breathtaking view of the U.S. Capitol. NBC Sports’ JP Finlay shared the rendering on Monday, and it quickly made waves across the NFL community. For a fan base that still treasures memories from the old RFK days, this development marks a powerful step forward.
Return Rooted In History And Ambition

The Washington Commanders spent more than three decades at the original RFK Stadium, winning three Super Bowls and cementing a legacy that still resonates. Now, they are poised to build new memories on familiar ground. According to reports, the project carries a hefty price tag of around $3.7 billion, with the Commanders contributing $2.7 billion and D.C. kicking in up to $850 million. The city plans to fund the first $500 million between 2026 and 2030, with the remaining $350 million coming from the site’s future tax revenues.

This would easily be the nicest stadium in the NFL.
The timeline is to open in 2030.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell stopped just short of confirming the deal during a Monday press conference but left no doubt about its significance. “The chances of the franchise landing a Super Bowl would improve dramatically with a new stadium,” Goodell said. His comments fueled even more excitement among Commanders fans, who have long awaited a serious move back into the heart of the nation’s capital.
The return became possible after Congress passed a bill in December clearing the way for the RFK site’s redevelopment. The Commanders’ current lease at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland, expires in 2027, opening the door for the franchise to break ground soon after.

Fans who endured years of aging infrastructure and underwhelming experiences at FedEx Field can now look ahead to a stunning new venue that promises modern amenities with a nod to the team’s storied past. The rendering offers a glimpse of what’s to come and reignites the passion that defined Washington football for decades.
With Dan Quinn leading the charge as head coach and rising star quarterback Jayden Daniels under center, the Commanders’ future looks bright both on and off the field.
