It looks like Shedeur Sanders rubbed a ton of people the wrong way.
Former Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Boomer Esiason spoke Monday on “Boomer and Gio” on WFAN about the former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback’s slide to Day 3 of the 2025 NFL draft when the Cleveland Browns selected him in the fifth round with the 144th pick.
As Sanders plummeted, analysts wondered how long it would take for a team to finally pull the trigger on the talented Colorado quarterback. Nobody expected him to be on the board on the draft’s final day.
According to WFAN’s Boomer Esiason, Sanders was reportedly removed from at least three NFL Draft boards prior to the event due to his “entitled” attitude.
The former NFL quarterback said he spoke to NFL personnel people with three separate teams who said their team’s owner told them to remove Shedeur Sanders from their draft boards.
“(NFL teams) took him off (their draft boards), and they took him off because the owner said ‘take him off,’” Esiason said.
“I don’t want that guy.’ Shedeur Sanders just torpedoed himself. His attitude off the field at the combine and his dad didn’t help him either. You know, he was on podcasts talking about this is my son if I can get him to where I want to get him to, I’m gonna do that.”

“But, you know, when you listen to this kid talk right prior or at the combine about if you want a new culture in your locker room, I’m the guy to do that. I can turn it around. I mean, he’s very high on himself. And I think he was very off-putting to many, many coaches and general managers in the league. And I’m telling you right now, and I know this after talking to three different personnel people in the NFL this weekend: They didn’t even have him on their board. … I don’t want this entitled person on our team. And I don’t blame them.”

ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr., who voiced his displeasure with NFL teams for avoiding Sanders, had a similar issue with teams not selecting Esiason in the first round in 1984. He fell to the second round when the Bengals took him 38th overall.
From 1984 to 1992, Esiason threw for 25,671 yards and 174 touchdowns while completing 56.2 percent of his passes for the Bengals.
Shedeur Sanders Has A lot To Prove

Shedeur Sanders experienced an unexpected slide to the fifth round of the NFL draft.
Sanders had a tremendous collegiate career, throwing for 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns in his final season at Colorado.
None of that matters anymore, as he is now starting from square one.
Sanders has to put in the work to prove that teams passing on him was an egregious mistake.
