Former NFL quarterback and first-overall pick Cam Newton ripped on Shedeur Sanders following the latter’s stunning fall in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Sanders was widely expected to be a top-10 pick in the NFL Draft, or an early second-round pick at worst. But in an all-time incomprehensible draft fall, Sanders wasn’t taken until the fifth round at No. 144 overall by the Cleveland Browns.
The Browns passed on Sanders numerous times before ending his wait on day three of the draft. It was also a surprise when Cleveland took him there, since they had already used a third-round pick (No. 94 overall) on Oregon QB Dillon Gabriel.
In a series of clips from his “4th&1” that have quickly gone viral, Cam Newton called out Shedeur Sanders and accused him of being arrogant.
As you can see in the clip below, Newton said fellow Colorado product Travis Hunter is what people think Deion Sanders’ kid should be. Newton also asked which moment Shedeur can “hang your hat on” from his college days:
“Shedeur I got to hold him accountable. Shedeur has always got this mean look on his face, like he always is. Snobbish looking, you know what I’m saying?”

In a separate clip, Cam Newton said that Sanders should have been a top-10 selection, but he needs to take on the challenge of football without his father:
“This is the first time in Shedeur’s life that, as a grown man, he’s not being coached by his dad. And that’s a lot of impact. Is he deserving of a top-10 pick? Absolutely. Is this their way where people are saying, ‘Yo, we wanna humble this guy, he even having his jersey retired.’
…Daddy ain’t gonna be able to save you, bro….So, how does he take that on as a challenge, as to say, ‘People are gonna look at me, they’re gonna critique me for everything. I’m already coming in with this mentality or this aura that I’m larger than life,’ and rightfully so. He’s earned that cause he has performed. But at the end of the day, dawg, this is the big leagues. This is the league.”
Shedeur sliding in the draft might just be the blessing he needs…🫡

Sanders joins a crowded Cleveland quarterback room that features Gabriel, Kenny Pickett, Joe Flacco and Deshaun Watson, though it’s unclear if the latter will play at all in 2025 as he recovers from an Achilles tear.
Cam Newton Is A Shining Example Of Shining Under Pressure As A Highly-Touted QB

Newton was the first-overall pick of a loaded 2011 NFL Draft class that also featured all-time greats like Von Miller, Julio Jones, J.J. Watt, Patrick Peterson, Tyron Smith, A.J. Green, Cameron Heyward and Cameron Jordan, among others.
Cam Newton joined a rebuilding Carolina Panthers club as a rookie, but immediately emerged as a highlight reel superstar. Newton went on to win 2015 MVP honors and led the Panthers to four playoff appearances and a Super Bowl 50 appearance.
