Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders turned heads with some absolute dimes in his first day at rookie minicamp on Friday.
NFL team minicamp sessions commenced today and will run through Sunday. And though Shedeur Sanders was a fifth-round pick, much of the focus this weekend is on the Colorado product following his stunning draft slide.
As everyone knows, Sanders was widely expected to be a first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, with many analysts and scouts projecting him to go in the top 10. In an all-time stunner, however, Sanders didn’t go until round five at No. 144 overall.
With rookie minicamp opening, Sanders’ mission to prove the other 31 teams is now underway. And judging by his performance today, it sure looks like Shedeur is locked in and ready to silence the critics.

Cleveland’s other quarterbacks are fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel, 2022 first-round pick and offseason trade acquisition Kenny Pickett, 2023 Comeback Player of the Year Joe Flacco and Deshaun Watson. The latter, however, could miss all of 2025 after re-tearing his Achilles in January.

Flacco appears to be the guy to beat in the QB1 competition, though, given his familiarity in Kevin Stefanski’s offense. Of course, Shedeur can change that with a strong showing in training camp and preseason play.
Why Shedeur Sanders Slid In The 2025 NFL Draft

There are multiple reports that outline why Shedeur Sanders fell in the 2025 NFL Draft. Among them: Other clubs weren’t pleased with his performance in pre-draft interviews and felt he was more worried about how teams would work around him.
It has also been floated that other teams were worried about Deion Sanders trying to get too involved in the coaching and handling of his son at the professional level. Several months ago, “Coach Prime” himself mentioned specific teams that he wanted to draft Shedeur.
