On Monday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the New York Jets were trading QB Sam Darnold to the Carolina Panthers for trade compensation.

Soon after the trade was announced, the Panthers social media team won the entire day by taking a well-known meme of Darnold from two years ago and making it their own.

It was back in 2019 when ESPN put out its injury-report graphic during a Browns-Jets broadcast. The broadcast rolled out a graphic that had Darnold staring into the camera and nodding, while having “OUT INDEFINITELY MONONUCLEOSIS” text placed besides him.
