Ahead of the trade deadline, the team sent their second-round pick in the 2023 draft to the Steelers for the third-year wideout. That now gives Justin Feld a big target to throw to for the rest of the season, barring any injuries.
Following being shipped out of Pittsburgh after the team drafted him out of Notre Dame in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the 24-year-old took to social media and thanked the franchise.
“I will always have an unbelievable amount of love for Steelers Nation and the organization that drafted me out of Notre Dame,” Claypool wrote. “I am beyond grateful for the amazing people in Pittsburgh for embracing me & the lifelong memories made. Now… Back to business in the Midwest.”
Claypool has 153 catches for 2,044 yards and 12 touchdowns over the last two-plus seasons. However, ten of his touchdowns came as a rookie.
For Chicago, it gives another top WR aside from Darnell Mooney, who leads Chicago in receiving production with 25 catches for 364 yards and no touchdowns through eight games.
No other Bears wideout has more than 164 receiving yards or 11 catches.
Claypool is under contract through the 2023 season.
