Ahead of this week’s 2025 NFL Draft, one NFL coach provided a not-so-flattering take on Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders.
The 23-year-old Sanders is the consensus No. 2 quarterback in this year’s draft class, behind only Miami’s quarterback Cam Ward. It’s widely expected that the Tennessee Titans will take Ward with the top selection, with analysts and scouts divided on where Sanders should end up.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero spoke to league executives, coaches and scouts for analysis on the top 18 quarterback prospects in the 2025 Draft. There, a veteran assistant NFL coach provided a scathing take on Sanders:
“The worst formal interview I’ve ever been in in my life. He’s so entitled. He takes unnecessary sacks. He never plays on time. He has horrible body language. He blames teammates…But the biggest thing is, he’s not that good.”
That wasn’t the only negative review Pelissero got on Shedeur Sanders, with an AFC executive also saying he wasn’t “great in our interview…wants to dictate what he’s going to do and what’s best for him.”
Obviously, there’s no such thing as a “perfect” and unflawed draft prospect. But Sanders is more fascinating than most highly-touted quarterbacks because he’s a) the son of Hall of Famer Deion Sanders and b) awfully polarizing.
Of course, it largely depends on where Shedeur Sanders will land and how his team develops him. Just look at Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold, who recently shrugged off the “bust” label by breaking out with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Minnesota Vikings, respectively after disappointing tenures with their previous clubs.

Shedeur Sanders Should Still Be A First-Round Pick

Regardless of how you feel about Shedeur Sanders as a prospect, it would be a giant surprise if he weren’t taken in round one.
It’s not just because of his high ceiling, but because of how many teams need a long-term solution behind center. This includes the New York Giants (the No. 3 pick), Las Vegas Raiders (No. 6), New Orleans Saints (No. 9), Pittsburgh (No. 21), and Los Angeles Rams (No. 26).
