Heinicke and the heavy underdog Commanders came into Lincoln Financial Field and dominated the Philadelphia Eagles, handing the NFC East rivals their first loss of 2022 with a 32-21 victory. The W also keeps Washington’s slim playoff hopes intact, as they now sit at 5-5 with seven games to go.
As part of Heinicke’s contract, he gets a $125,000 bonus for every game he wins in which he plays at least 60 percent of Washington’s offensive snaps. And, as is tradition for the Commanders quarterback, he’s using part of that bonus money to buy himself some Air Jordans in the color of the team he beat—in this case, some “Metallic Green” Air Jordan 4s.
And because this was such a big victory for himself and his team, Heinicke is taking things one step further this time by buying his offensive linemen some J’s too.
Per ESPN’s John Keim:
“The good vibes carried over into Tuesday when Heinicke celebrated in his traditional way: buying Air Jordans after a win in the colors of the team the Commanders beat, thanks to the $125,000 bonus he pockets for each victory. Only this time, Heinicke added a twist. On “The Pat McAfee Show” on Tuesday, Heinicke said he might buy his linemen Jordans as well. Then he did so.”
Heinicke completed 17 of 29 pass attempts for 211 yards, zero touchdowns and one interception on the day. He didn’t have to make too many throws thanks to Washington’s strong rushing game (152 yards, two touchdowns) and stingy defense that kept Jalen Hurts in check all game long.
Heinicke drew a critical roughing the passer penalty on Brandon Graham late in the game after “giving himself up”, which allowed Washington to melt most of the clock. They scored one more defensive touchdown after a failed Eagles lateral play to win by double-digits.
Washington will try to get back above .500 when they visit the NFL’s worst team in the Houston Texans this Sunday. After that, they’ll return home for an early afternoon showdown against the Atlanta Falcons.
