Dallas Cowboys legend Tyron Smith is set to return to the team, although it will be for just one day.
Smith joined the New York Jets on a one-year deal last season, having spent his entire career with the Cowboys up to that point, giving the team that drafted him 13 great years. And he’s now set to retire as a Cowboy.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the left tackle will sign a one-day contract to retire with the NFC East side after his last-ditch attempt to win a championship fell through, given the Jets’ disastrous 2024 campaign.
“Cowboys legendary LT Tyron Smith is set to sign a one-day contract and retire as one of the organization’s all-time greats,” Rapoport reported on Tuesday, citing league sources.
Tyron Smith Is Hall Of Fame Bound

While he did not manage to win a ring with the Cowboys, Smith is undoubtedly one of the greatest players to ever wear the team’s uniform and is widely considered to be the best LT in team history.
After eight Pro Bowl selections and five All-Pro selections, two of them First-Team, he is likely to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. There’s no doubt that he would have earned a few more of those call-ups had injuries not impacted his career.

The 34-year-old had nine consecutive seasons in which he played less than 14 games.
He played 10 games for the Jets last season, losing his place as a starter in the defensive set-up.
Tyron Smith joins another legendary Cowboys guard in retirement as Zack Martin is also calling quits after 11 seasons, having announced his retirement earlier in the offseason.
A nine-time Pro Bowler, seven-time First-Team All-Pro, and a member of the NFL 2010s All-Decade team, Martin is stepping away with one of the most outstanding OL careers in league history.
