For the second straight offseason, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones curiously decided to avoid big splashes in the free agency and trade markets.
As frustrating as it is for Cowboys fans, it’s not surprising. Jerry Jones said a year ago that Dallas would have an “all-in” approach to the offseason, yet he didn’t make a single blockbuster splash to upgrade the roster.
Once again, the Cowboys are focused on building their team through the draft. With the No. 12 selection in a deep draft class, though, the Cowboys are in a good spot to land an immediate impact player.
We know Dallas fans are used to word salad from Jerry Jones. But his son, Cowboys co-owner, CEO and executive vice president Stephen Jones, hinted at an “explosive” move to upgrade their offense.
Per Tommy Yarrish of the official team website, Jones said Dallas is looking for a stud No. 2 wide receiver to complement CeeDee Lamb.
“We’re still open to looking at a really explosive number two that could upgrade us,” Jones said. “But as I said, I like our room and certainly like the players we currently have.”

Dallas has lacked a No. 2 receiver behind Lamb since Jerry Jones traded Amari Cooper to the Cleveland Browns in the 2022 offseason. Dallas extended one-time 1,000-yard receiver Michael Gallup, but injuries prevented him from becoming a steady WR2.
Jerry Jones Can Find An “Explosive” WR In The Draft

Fortunately for the Cowboys, the 2025 NFL Draft is loaded with promising wide receiver prospects. They won’t get two-way star Travis Hunter at No. 12, but Arizona State’s Tetairoa McMillan, Texas’ Matthew Golden, Missouri’s Luther Burden III and Ohio States’ Emeka Egbuka are among the top WRs who could be available for Dallas when it’s their turn to hand in the card.
