Add President Donald Trump to the list of people who think ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith should run for office in the 2028 presidential election.
The 57-year-old Stephen A. Smith has floated the idea of running for President of the United States in 2028. The American people must vote for a new president, as the U.S. Constitution will bar Donald Trump from running for a third presidential term.
Smith has also fared well in the early betting odds for the Democratic Party nomination, with the Kalshi prediction market giving him 7.26 percent implied odds of winning it, per Ryan Glasspiegel of Front Office Sports.
Stephen A. Smith participated in a NewsNation town hall with former CNN anchor Chris Cuomo and conservative political Bill O’Reilly, previously with Fox News. President Trump was on the phone and endorsed the idea of Smith running for office in 2028.
“Stephen A, he’s a good guy. He’s a smart guy. I love watching him. He’s got great entertainment skills, which is very important…A lot of these Democrats, I watch, I say they have no chance…I’ve been pretty good at picking people and picking candidates…I’d love to see him run.”

Hey, if Donald Trump endorses Smith running for President with the rival party, that bodes well for the ESPN personality’s talent. Surely a public thumbs-up from Trump would help Smith get some votes from some Republicans.

Stephen A. Smith Could Actually Win The 2028 Election

As crazy as it sounds to some, Smith would actually have a solid chance at winning the 2028 election if he were to secure the Democratic nomination. Remember, Ronald Reagan was once a successful Hollywood actor before his political career.
And don’t forget how many people laughed when Trump began his presidential bid a decade ago. The star of “The Apprentice” won two separate elections and secured three Republican nominations.
With his charisma, personality and giant fanbase in the world of sports, Stephen A. Smith could very well run a strong campaign and appeal to the American people. Who knows? He just might follow Trump’s footsteps and win an election despite no previous political experience.
