Matt Patricia has taken quite the beating this offseason as two former players have already blasted him for his actions as the head coach of the team.
The latest to put him on blast is former safety Glover Quinn, who although made it clear he has no issue with him as a person, but stated he problems with the way he coaches.
Quinn joined SportsRadio 610 in Houston and said that the Lions’ regression on the field the last few years has everything to do with Patricia being hired.
“We were changing the perception for the Detroit Lions, and then all of sudden Matt Patricia comes in and feels like, I gotta change the whole culture,” said Quin. “And we’re like, ‘You don’t have to change the culture. The culture is good. They just maybe want you to get us over the hump.’ …
A lot of the guys took exception with the way he handled his business and his arrogance.
“Coach Patricia came in and tore it all down and a lot of the guys didn’t really want to buy into what he was teaching because of the way he presented it. His attitude, his persona, his arrogance, things like that made people not really want to buy into it. That was the disconnect.”
After back-to-back 9-7 seasons and even a playoff appearance, Patricia was hired and the team has went 6-10 in 2018 and then 3-12-1 during the 2019 season.
