As one of the top NFL insiders, Adam Schefter has made a living out of breaking blockbuster news around the league, ranging from trades to free agent signings to rule changes to coaching hires.
In a time where it’s easy to be duped by fake reports and rumors on social media, folks like Adam Schefter provide the full truth in their stories. With the best possible sources at their disposal, Schefter and other reputable NFL insiders have become the most trusted journalists in American football.
Needing to preserve his reputation and integrity, Schefter would never dare break a fake news story concerning the NFL. Schefter, however, was the victim of such a priceless prank during the 2025 Masters in Augusta.
Speaking on the latest edition of “The Adam Schefter Podcast”, the ESPN insider said that a fan at The Masters gave him an anxiety-inducing moment by giving him a false news scoop, if you will.
Schefter explained that cell phones aren’t allowed on the golf course at The Masters, and he was worried about missing out on breaking some major NFL news. Sure enough, a fan went up to Schefter and gave him a scare with a savage prank:
“I had this one, I’d say 20-year-old kid, come running right up to me. And he goes, ‘Did you hear about the humongous NFL trade?’ And my heart dropped…And I’m like, ‘No.’ And he’s like, ‘I’m only kidding.’
…That wasn’t that funny…scared the crap out of me. My heart dropped into my stomach when he said that.”

Does Mr. Schefter ever get the chance to relax while he’s on vacation?
Like all prominent sports insiders, Schefter has to be on his phone nonstop. But of course, the one time he doesn’t have his phone at his disposal, he wasn’t able to relax thanks to this fan’s hysterical prank.
A Busy Week Lies Ahead For Adam Schefter

It’s nice that Schefter was able to enjoy a getaway at one of the world’s most prestigious sporting events, because he’s not going to sleep a whole lot next week.
The 2025 NFL Draft begins on April 24 and runs through the 26th. Schefter will be working the phones nonstop to get all the scoops he can before, during and after the draft in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
