Bill Belichick can’t seem to catch a break from social media. When the team seemingly refused to upgrade their QB position after Tom Brady, people thought the Patriots were planning to tank in order to get Trevor Lawrence next year.
Then the team went out and signed QB Cam Newton and those talks dies down….until this week.
As many as six players on the Patriots have opted out of the 2020 season and fans are now convinced the Patriots and Belichick still have their secret plan in place to tank for Lawrence.
“You know those Patriots players that opt out are getting paid under the table so the team can draft Trevor Lawrence right?” one fan wrote.
“Bill Belichick has key players opting out this season to rest up for the 2021 Super Bowl run led by Trevor Lawrence,” another fan added.
“So the Patriots are going to tank for Trevor Lawrence, the Warriors are going to get a top pick and both dynasties will be back after taking a Corona-shortened season off. Life is unfair,” one fan said.
Safety Patrick Chung is the latest to opt out and he now joins teammates linebacker Dont’a Hightower, offensive lineman Marcus Cannon, fullback Danny Vitale, guard Najee Toran, and running back Brandon Bolden who will all stay safe and not risk contracting the coronavirus.
New England’s roster has taken a major hit over the last 24-plus hours.
