Former Cowboys tight end Gavin Escobar has been positively identified as one of two rock climbers found dead in California earlier this week.
He was just 31-years-old.
Chelsea Walsh was the other victim and both Escobar and Walsh were from Huntington Beach.
The cause of death is unknown as the investigation continues.
Escobar’s mother told WFAA in a brief statement, “He was a great father, husband, and son. Just heartbroken now.”
After leaving football in 2019, Escobar would become a firefighter for the Long Beach Fire Department.
Escobar was a former NFL player, spending most of his career with the Dallas Cowboys. He attended San Diego State before being drafted by the Cowboys in 2013. He also played for the Chiefs, Ravens, Dolphins, and Browns.
He last played in 2019.
Escobar leaves behind a wife and two young children.
