Cam Ward clearly dreams of playing for the New Orleans Saints. The former Miami quarterback grew up watching Drew Brees and Marques Colston dominate defenses. He recently met with head coach Kellen Moore, a Super Bowl-winning play-caller with a fresh vision for the team.
However, for Ward to land in New Orleans, the Saints must make a bold move up the draft board, a costly but potentially franchise-altering decision.
The Saints hold the No. 9 pick, while the Tennessee Titans sit atop the draft order. The Tennessee Titans have shown interest in Cam Ward but might trade back, gather picks, and focus on building for the future. That opens the door for New Orleans to make a play, and history suggests such a deal isn’t out of the question.
The Trade Proposal: What It Would Take

To secure the No. 1 overall pick, the Saints would likely need to send the Titans a hefty package. A realistic deal could include the No. 9 selection, a 2025 third-round pick, a 2026 first-round pick, and a 2026 fourth-round pick. It mirrors the Carolina Panthers’ aggressive trade with the Chicago Bears to land Bryce Young in 2023, a precedent that proves such a move is possible.
For the Saints, acquiring Ward would be a fresh start at quarterback and a necessary step toward long-term stability. New Orleans’ salary cap situation remains challenging, and bringing in a talented rookie signal-caller on a cost-controlled contract could provide financial flexibility. Ward’s skill set- strong arm, mobility, and playmaking ability- aligns well with Moore’s offensive philosophy.

Ward, for his part, seems intrigued by the possibility. “It was a great meeting,” he said of his time with Moore. “If you get a chance to go play for a Super Bowl-winning coach, you have to be prepared at all times.”
If the Titans are open to dealing the top pick, the Saints have the assets to make it happen. Now, it’s up to general manager Mickey Loomis to decide whether Ward is worth the price of a franchise-altering trade.
