Jalen Ramsey does not like to be disrespected.
It’s officially rankings season, with outlets across the internet coming out with polls of the best players at each position. The Rams cornerback was already ranked the best outside cornerback in the NFL by Touchdown Wire for the second year in a row, and ESPN’s latest poll confirmed that placement.
ESPN had NFL players, coaches, executives, and scouts vote on the best cornerbacks in football and Ramsey once again earned the No. 1 spot. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler noted that a few evaluators didn’t put him among the five best cornerbacks in the league. And one AFC executive even sees Ramsey as overrated.
“I think he’s falling off and a little overrated at this point,” an AFC exec said. “Super Bowl, to me, is an indication of what it’s going to look like moving forward.”
“He’s not as good as [Darrelle] Revis or Charles Woodson, but he’s the best in this era,” an NFL personnel director told Fowler. “He does everything well.”
Ramsey saw that comment and fired back on Twitter.
“This is comedy Cam…” he said in response to a tweet from Cameron DaSilva of TheRamsWire. “This DB shit is not even a debate anymore at this point forreal & everybody will see ONCE AGAIN just like they have been seeing! It’s just funny seeing people try to find ways to get me from being top dawg.
“I’ll speak more on this when the time comes.”
Ramsey didn’t have his best in the Super Bowl, getting beat for a long touchdown by Tee Higgins.
Ramsey turns 28 in October and just underwent offseason shoulder surgery.
Last season, Ramsey recorded 77 tackles, nine tackles for loss, four interceptions, 16 pass deflections, a fumble recovery, and a forced fumble in 16 starts.
The marks for total tackles and tackles for loss were new a career-high for Ramsey while the four interceptions tied for the most in a season in his career.
