
NFL fans were left in confusion Sunday after Bears wide receiver Javon Wims suddenly walked up to Saints’ Chauncey Gardner-Johnson and began punching him in the helmet.
Watching the replay, there was no clear indication as to what set Wims off. After the punches, Bears and Saints players went out to defend their teammates and a small brawl ensued.
So, what exactly happened?
Wims explained to NFL officials that Gardner-Johnson spit on him and ripped out his mouthguard in a previous play.

Wims and Gardner-Johnson were getting into an exchange, and Gardner-Johnson clearly knocks Wims’ mouthpiece off his helmet.
Wims was subbed out on the next play and would would have to wait for retaliation.
He waited about 11 real-time minutes on the sidelines as the Saints’ offense had possession of the ball. When the Bears’ offense got back on the field, that’s when Wims got his revenge.
NFL Network is reporting the league is considering a suspension for Wims.
