The Los Angeles Chargers rejected several significant trade offers at the 2025 NFL Draft last week, head coach Jim Harbaugh revealed.
With the No. 22 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Chargers selected North Carolina running back Omarion Hampton. The 2023 and 2024 First-team All-American was the consensus No. 2 RB prospect in this year’s draft, behind Boise State star Ashton Jeanty, who went sixth overall to the Las Vegas Raiders.
Speaking on “The Rich Eisen Show”, Jim Harbaugh revealed that the Chargers declined several trade offers for their first-round pick, not wanting to pass on the all-world talents of Hampton.
“There were some teams calling to try and trade up You’re gonna listen to those calls, but for this player, it’s gonna have to be something that blows us away. And there were some good deals. We said, ‘This is our guy, let’s pick him.'”
In the weeks leading up to the draft, many mock drafts had the Chargers taking Hampton to bolster their offense. A Jim Harbaugh-coached team is all about running the ball, and the Bolts needed more RB depth behind free agent signing Najee Harris.
In his final college football season, Hampton rushed for 1,660 yards and 15 touchdowns, averaging a ridiculous 5.9 yards per carry. He was also productive as a receiver, catching 38 passes for 373 yards and two touchdowns.

Jim Harbaugh & Chargers Should Have An Explosive Offense In 2025

Hampton will share the backfield with Harris, who rushed for over 1,000 yards in each of his four seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Throw in the presence of Ladd McConkey, the second-round pick of Tre Harris and the free agent pickup of old friend Mike Williams, and Justin Herbert is sure well-suited to have the best season of his career.
