Could JJ Watt be headed for an analyst role near you?
NBC is said to be targeting former defensive lineman J.J. Watt to become part of its new Big Ten football package, Awful Announcing reports.
This will be NBC’s first season of Big Ten coverage, as the network expands its college football coverage beyond Notre Dame games. Starting with the 2023 season, NBC has hired Noah Eagle and Todd Blackledge to host its new Big Ten coverage.
Watt recently retired from the NFL but has yet to announce his next move as rumors suggest he could come out of retirement, although, he has denied he would be doing such a thing.
Earlier this year, the 34-year-old said he might consider doing television in the right situation.
“Early in my career I said I would never do it, but I love the game too much to not be around it in some capacity,” he tweeted.
Having Watt would give NBC a big name to compete with ESPN, CBS, and Fox.
Watt is a reasonably charming individual, which, when paired with his overall expertise and modern understanding of the professional game, bodes well for a prospective career in broadcasting.
In the meantime, Watt recently purchased a stake of ownership in Burnley Football Club in the English Premier League and still has obligations at home with an infant son.WANT MORE FROM TOTALPROSPORTS? FOLLOW US ON GOOGLE NEWS.
