McVay took over the reins in L.A. back in 2017, winning the NFL Coach of the Year Award in his first season as the Rams HC. It appears it’s all coming to an end now, with the 36-year-old reportedly on his way out.
According to Jay Glazer, people within the Rams organization would be surprised to see McVay back next season.
“I don’t think he’s gonna take a long time to make his decision… there’s more people inside the building, when you talk to them, they’d be more surprised if he came back than if he left,” Glazer said during FOX’s pregame show on Sunday.
Sean McVay isn’t Interested In An Overhaul
Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk has also claimed that McVay simply isn’t interested in being part of a rebuilding process that would take years.
“There’s a growing sense that he will [step down],” Florio said. “My understanding is it’s not because of burnout or he wants to get into TV, he won a Super Bowl and now he’s facing a multi-year rebuild that he just doesn’t want to be a part of…”
Speaking to reporters on Sunday, McVay refused to open up on his future, noting he will deal with it at a later time and was not thinking of what might happen next.
“I’m not thinking about that right now,” he insisted. “Nothing’s changed from kind of where we left things off on Friday. … I’m right here right now and we’ll deal with that stuff at a later time.”
McVay has had a storied career with the Rams and, should it come to an end, he will be in high demand during the offseason. Might be, Sean Payton won’t be the only Sean being sought after this year.
