The New England Patriots are in mourning this week after the death of Matt Stevens. A cause of death was not released.
He was just 51.
Stevens was a member of the 2001 Patriots team that won the Super Bowl.
Stevens was selected by the Bills in the third round of the 1996 draft as a safety, playing eight years in the league, and won a Super Bowl with the Patriots in 2001.
Things would change drastically in his life in 2007 when he was paralyzed from the waist down in a motorcycle accident where he broke his spinal cord.
However, four years later, Stevens was able to move around again thanks to special leg braces that were made for him.
Before his NFL career started, Stevens was a two-time All-American at Appalachian State who helped lead the team to the Southern Conference Championship in 1995.

Matt Stevens played on eight teams during his career, starting with the Bills and also spending time with the Eagles, Redskins, Patriots, and Texans.
According to Chapelboro.com, he died on March 20, 2025.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 28.
