Something’s brewing in Dallas, and the clue came straight from Instagram. Texas wide receiver Matthew Golden just might have tipped the Dallas Cowboys’ hand ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft. Golden, one of the fastest risers in this year’s draft class, recently visited The Star in Frisco and shared a telling photo with none other than Jerry Jones.
The picture quickly made the rounds online, and Cowboys insider Clarence Hill Jr. added fuel to the speculation.

“Explosive Texas WR Matthew Golden has checked in from the Cowboys headquarters. He is on his official visit,” Hill wrote on X. “A legitimate option at 12 to pair with CeeDee Lamb and give the Cowboys Red River duo at WR.”
That timing, along with Dallas’ glaring need at the position, is hard to ignore.
Cowboys Focus On Golden As A First-Round Target

Golden’s draft stock soared after he clocked a blistering 4.29-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine. That alone pushed him into the first-round conversation, but Dallas appears to be taking things a step further. With Brandin Cooks gone and Jalen Tolbert struggling to fill the WR2 role, the Cowboys are pressured to find a reliable partner for Lamb.

Golden, a Houston native, offers just that. He spent two years with the Cougars before transferring to Texas for the 2024 season. His lone year in Austin produced 987 yards and nine touchdowns on 58 catches, capped off with a big-time performance against Arizona State in the College Football Playoff. He torched the Sun Devils for 149 yards and a touchdown on seven receptions, a game that proved he can deliver when it matters.
Daniel Jeremiah has already pegged Golden as a strong WR2 fit for Dallas, citing his athleticism and route-running consistency. While some projections place him slightly lower, like PFSN’s mock draft that has him going to Pittsburgh at No. 21, the Cowboys may not want to take that risk.
Golden shared two photos from his Cowboys visit on his Instagram story, with one featuring Jones and the caption “Dat man.” It’s a small gesture, but one that fans and analysts are reading into with purpose. The Cowboys are holding the 12th pick, and if the signs are any indication, they may already have their man.
