The Minnesota Vikings were one of the best teams in football this past season. A lot of that may be due to the fantastic play of quarterback Sam Darnold, and a lot of it also may be due to the team’s head coach, Kevin O’Connell.
The Vikings were slated to use their first-round pick, JJ McCarthy, as their starting signal caller for 2024; however, due to a season-ending leg injury, Darnold was thrusted into the starting job and took full advantage of it.
Not all fans were sold entirely on Darnold’s 2024 performance, as his last two games of the season were quite subpar. However, Darnold secured another contract in Seattle this off-season, leaving O’Connell with yet another vacancy at the quarterback position.
While O’Connell may be planning to have McCarthy take the helm in 2025, there are no guarantees that the now sophomore is up to the task.
Some NFL fans have suggested an insurance plan that involves legendary quarterback Aaron Rodgers, as it seems he is shadowing the career of the legendary Brett Favre.
Kevin O’Connell Makes His Stance On Aaron Rodgers Clear

A report from the Athletic stated that the Vikings scouting team believes that the former Packers signal-caller still has the talent to perform at a high level in the NFL. However, “all parties believe that O’Connell is the decision maker best equipped to know and understand what JJ McCarthy’s mindset is, and how the young quarterback might react to Rodgers’ presence.”

Co-author of the Athletic article, Michael Silver, joined the “Just Your Opinion, Man” podcast to further report on the ordeal, adding, “Some people who are pretty familiar with what’s going on in that building have told us it’s literally 50-50 in their eyes.”
O’Connell is definitely considering the option of Aaron Rodgers at the helm next season. The important question is, if Rodgers does decide to head to Minnesota, will it help or hurt their chances of improving on their 2024 campaign.
