A fascinating draft day trade proposal has the New York Giants moving up to select their new franchise quarterback late in round one.
Giants GM Joe Schoen has already addressed the quarterback room by signing former Pro Bowlers Jameis Winston and Russell Wilson in free agency. But neither QB is a short-term option, so don’t be surprised if Big Blue targets the position in the early rounds.
With the No. 3 pick, it’s unlikely the Giants will reach for a quarterback like Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders or Ole Miss’ Jaxson Dart. With Cam Ward likely going first overall to the Tennessee Titans, the Giants will probably pick whoever remains between Abdul Carter and Travis Hunter after the Cleveland Browns make their selection.
Ahead of the draft in Green Bay, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox proposed one blockbuster draft day trade idea for all 32 teams. In one proposal, Knox has the New York Giants acquiring the No. 30 and 169 picks from the Buffalo Bills in exchange for the No. 34 and No. 104 picks.
Knox then floated a scenario where the Giants take Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe:
As is the case for Cleveland, trading back into the first round to get a quarterback and the fifth-year option would be sensible for New York. Trading into the bottom of the round might not give the Giants a shot at Jaxson Dart, who continues to generate first-round buzz. It might, however, give them a crack at intriguing Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe.
While Milroe is expected to be an NFL project, he’d have a season to learn behind Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston in New York. He’s also a prospect who reportedly has “supporters” within the Giants organization.”

Milroe is a consensus top-five quarterback in this year’s draft class. But he’s unlikely to be a day-one starter, so the New York Giants feel like a logical landing spot with Wilson and Winston available as “bridge” QBs.
New York Giants Could Have Real Competition For Trading Up

Even if the Giants want to trade up later in round one for a quarterback, they’re sure to face real competition there. The Pittsburgh Steelers, New Orleans Saints and Los Angeles Rams could also eye a second or third-tier QB prospect like Milroe near the end of round one.
The Browns and Las Vegas Raiders could also look to move up if they don’t take a quarterback with the No. 2 and 6 picks, respectively.
