The New York Jets haven’t made the playoffs since 2010, and they’re desperate for a reset.
With a new general manager in Darren Mougey and head coach Aaron Glenn taking over this offseason, change is coming fast- and it might include one of the team’s top offensive playmakers.
Breece Hall has been the go-to guy in the Jets’ backfield since entering the league in 2022. But as he enters the final year of his rookie deal, his future with the team is suddenly uncertain. Glenn’s recent comments about shifting to a committee approach have only fueled the trade rumor fire.
Hall’s Role In Question As Jets Eye Ashton Jeanty

In an interview with reporters, Glenn clarified that the Jets plan to spread the backfield load. “I think, mentally, [Hall] is in a good place, but I would say that we have three running backs on this team that we’re going to utilize as much as possible,” he said, referring to Hall, Braelon Allen, and Isaiah Davis. “They’re all big men, they can run, they’re violent, they’re physical.”
That shift in philosophy, combined with Hall’s upcoming contract expiration in 2026, has sparked speculation that the Jets could shop him this offseason. According to ESPN’s Rich Cimini, Hall is one of several players due for an extension alongside cornerback Sauce Gardner and wide receiver Garrett Wilson- both higher-priority positions in today’s NFL.

Cimini adds the Jets may be open to trading Breece Hall if Ashton Jeanty is available at 7th overall.

Cimini floated the idea that New York might be open to dealing Hall if Boise State standout Ashton Jeanty is still available when the Jets pick seventh overall in the draft later this month. Jeanty, a dynamic runner with top-end acceleration and vision, fits the mold of a modern, committee-friendly backfield piece.
Hall has been productive, posting over 1,300 scrimmage yards in the last two seasons, but his yards-per-carry average has dropped each year since his standout rookie season (5.8 in 2022, 4.5 in 2023, and 4.2 in 2024). A lighter workload might improve efficiency, but it also raises questions about his long-term value in New York’s evolving offense.
With the draft looming and a new regime calling the shots, Hall’s status is one of the biggest storylines to watch in Florham Park.
