The New York Jets are moving on from Pro Bowler Greg Zuerlein after three seasons.
On Friday, the Jets announced on X/Twitter that they signed defensive end Michael Fletcher and released Greg Zuerlein. That leaves a kicker competition between veteran Anders Carlson (signed in January) and undrafted rookie Caden Davis in Gotham.
“Greg the Leg” was one of football’s best kickers during his tenure with the St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams from 2012 to 2019. He converted 82 percent of his field goal attempts with the franchise and made a pair of clutch kicks against the New Orleans Saints in the 2018 NFC Championship Game, sending the Rams to the Super Bowl for the first time in 17 years.
Social media had a lot to say over the Jets’ decision to release Zuerlein.
“thx greg for those 2 years. u were fun to watch. ngl u tour my soul out this past year with that broncos game,” one fan said.

Also known as “Legatron”, Greg Zuerlein was a Pro Bowler and First-team All-Pro in 2017, the first season of the Sean McVay era. Zuerlein spent his next two seasons with the Dallas Cowboys before landing with the Jets in 2022.

Zuerlein made 81.1 percent of kicks and 28 of 29 extra point attempts with the Jets that year. He was almost automatic in 2023, going 35-of-38 on field goals while converting 15 of 16 XP attempts.
Greg Zuerlein Had A Forgettable Final Year With Jets

Zuerlein had a disappointing final year with the Jets in 2024, making just nine of 15 FG attempts in eight games before suffering a knee injury that ended his season.
He missed a game-winning field goal attempt in the waning seconds of Week 4 against the major underdog Denver Broncos, marking the first defeat of a subsequent five-game losing streak.
