Every team in the league would love to have him, but his price tag may be too much for everybody to take on.
Hopkins said that he’s searching for a solid organization with a good quarterback he can gel with toward the postseason, but there are several teams that fit that bill, but are out on the pro bowler.
While the New England Patriots are emerging as a contender to sign the free agent WR, ESPN’s Dianna Russini is stating which teams are out on him.
“Update: The #Patriots are interested in signing WR DeAndre Hopkins, ‘per @diannaESPN.
“Russini adds that the #Bills are not “All In” on him, but they’ve had conversations about it and watching how it goes. She also adds that the #Cowboys and #Jets are not currently interested in him. Hopkins is expected to begin visiting teams next week or so.”
The New York Jets have Aaron Rodgers under center after finalizing a blockbuster trade with the Green Bay Packers, but it seems like they are not able to work Hopkins in whatever deal he is looking for.
Hopkins is a perennial No. 1 receiver in the NFL, so completely washing away the chance of bringing him in would be malpractice.
Hopkins had 64 receptions for 717 yards and three touchdowns last season despite serving a six-game suspension to begin the year.
One wonders if Hopkins would even consider New England since Bill O’Brien has been brought back. He was the head coach in Houston that was the reason why he got traded to the Cardinals in the first place. They reportedly did not have the best relationship.
