Barstool Sports owner and founder Dave Portnoy gave an incredibly bold and absurd 2025 NFL Draft prediction that will, respectfully, never happen in a million years.
The 2025 NFL Draft will run in Green Bay, Wisconsin, from Apr. 24-26. The Tennessee Titans hold the No. 1 selection, and Miami quarterback Cam Ward is the overwhelming odds-on favorite to be their pick.
But on X/Twitter, Dave Portnoy offered a tremendously bold prediction regarding the first overall selection. The self-proclaimed “QB expert” shared strong confidence that Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders will be the No. 1 pick over Ward:
I consider myself a Qb expert. I love Shedeur Sanders. I’d take him #1 overall. Please put a pin in this tweet so I can say I told you so when I’m proven to be correct
— Dave Portnoy (@stoolpresidente) April 15, 2025
Dave Portnoy’s prediction wouldn’t have been too far-fetched a couple of months ago. But Sanders’ stock has dropped over the past month, perhaps due to his decision to skip the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine.
Last month, NFL insider Josina Anderson also reported that one quarterbacks coach found Sanders “brash” and “arrogant” during their interview with him. So interpret that however you wish.
At this time, there aren’t any real indicators that the Titans will trade the No. 1 pick. Even if they did, it’s hard to envision a team moving up into the top spot to take a non-quarterback in this year’s class.

Nonetheless, Dave Portnoy is confident that Deion Sanders’ son will be the No. 1 pick in nine days. One way or another, his bold prediction promises to be memorable.
Dave Portnoy Will Look Like A Genius If This Happens

If Cam Ward isn’t the first-overall pick, one can only assume that it would be Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter or Colorado two-way phenom Travis Hunter.
But credit Dave Portnoy for being bold and interesting with his prediction here. If the Titans end up taking Shedeur with the first-overall selection, we’ll learn to never doubt Portnoy’s sports predictions again.
